So you're a fanboy of a car company, it's ok just accept it. But every car company/brand has at least one terrible car, that even the most die hard fanboy can't stand. What car do you wish never marred your favorite car maker?
For Cadillac you might easily jump the the Cimmaron. It was bad yes, but it was just a mediocre car that had the audacity to pass itself off as a luxury car. For me the absolute worst was the downsized Devilles of the mid 1980s. They took the classic shaped of GM's luxury flagship and morphed it into a cruel fwd caricature. To add insult to injury they powered with the miserable oil swilling 4.1. BMW and Mercedes were in their prime and the thought that this could go up against them was a sick joke.

I'm a Toyota fanboy, so it's tough to pick just one of their cars that I hate. So much beige! lol

It's my least favourite car from my favourite marque, and indeed, my least favourite car in all of cardom.

Wow, that is an ugly car.
If we're talking the closest company I come to being a bonafide fanboy of, we're probably talking Audi. And I would have to say my least favorite car from them is the Q5. Nothing wrong with it, but compared to an X3 or Evoque or XC60 it's just so goddamn boring.

The Camry has quite a few redeeming qualities. The Corolla has one, but the Civic does that one just as well, while doing other things a lot better.

Dodge Aspen. I talked about a while back. Dad had it as a company car and he said it tried to kill him on three occasions. It got 9 mpg city. POS.

After thinking about it for a while, I realized that I don't have a favorite car brand. There are certainly some car manufacturers I dislike more than others (looking at you, Mopar), but just about any company can turn out a good car even if most of their offering is bad. Maybe not Mopar, but you get the idea.

It's a shame, the higher end models are quite nice. The lower end ones ruin the brand though.

I'm going to say Cadillac but for me, its the third gen and fourth gen Escalades.
At least with the second gen, it looked kind of okay and still classy. but this was the point when the company was trying way too hard to appeal to the wannabe rappers and their "tasteful" sensibilities that popularized the car in the first place.
![]() 02/27/2015 at 13:21 |

X type. A Ford Mondeo in drag. From a company that a decade earlier had fought so hard against common platforms that they'd engineered their cars not to take their own V12 for fear they'd have the Rover V8 foisted on them. Plus it has that hideous "pastiche of big brother which is itself a pastiche of grandad" styling.
Yuck. (Sorry MyXTypeIsTooARealJaguar)

The road cars were utter shite, though. Poorly designed, poorly made and, most damningly considering Peugeot's reputation at the time of the 206's release, absolutely awful to drive. The 205, 106, 306, 405 and 406 had all been brilliant fun for their respective classes, even in pedestrian trim, and the GTis, Rallyes, Mi16 and so on were even better. Peugeot had become known as the company you went to if you wanted an ordinary, sensible car that could put a smile on your face.
The 206 changed all that, and represented the start of a decline that Peugeot still haven't fully pulled themselves out of.
![]() 02/27/2015 at 15:06 |
|
I must admit that the only Peugeot I remember seeing in the US was an Mi16, but you have to admit that the rally car redeems the crapbox to some extent! I would go with the 1007, a car which supposedly is worse at everything than its competitors, and has no 'pedigree' at all. But of course, it is your answer, not mine.
![]() 02/27/2015 at 15:13 |
|
It would, if a decent number of the actual good Peugeots hadn't had their own excellent rally cars. The 206 gets my vote simply because it was the car that kicked off the whole PSA malaise period. I utterly, utterly despise the bloody thing. It's the reason why, if I want to replace my current Pug with another, I have to shop for cars that are at least twelve years old, and generally a good deal older.
It's the reason why Peugeot drivers have become something of a national joke where I live. It destroyed Peugeot's formerly excellent reputation, almost single-handedly. If I never see another bloody 206 again, it'll be too soon.

Trust me, I fucking know. My mom has one and likes it more than the XTS she had, which I adored, therefore I hold the SRX responsible for that no longer being in the driveway. Fuck. S. R. Xs.

The X6 and GT cars are uglier, but this looses tons of points for forsaking BMW's rwd.

I think I've said this somewhere else, but I really can't like the Ford Tempo, no matter how hard I try. I'd rather drive a pinto, despite the near constant risk of fiery death.

You're talking about the Thesis right?
While the design is... striking , at least it's original. The rebadging of Chryslers into Lancias is done so shamelessly and lazily. To me, that's why it's a worse offense than this car's ugly mug.
![]() 02/27/2015 at 19:01 |

No, actually I was talking about the early 300's but now I'm also trying to unsee that other abomination that you posted.
![]() 02/27/2015 at 19:02 |

I don't think I have a favorite brand, really. So, I'll just echo your sentiment. GM's first round of downsizing with the B/D-Body full-size cars in '77 and the A-body midsize cars in '78 was masterfully executed. But, they kind of lost the plot after that.
The FWD Deville & Fleetwoods from the mid 80s were total disasters that both chased traditional Cadillac buyers over to the nearest Lincoln-Mercury showroom AND completely failed to lure any new conquests to the brand. The Eldorado and Seville adopted similar styling at the same time, with similar results.

Better late than never: Take your pick
These three masterpieces (and their brethren) personify everything that was great and horrible about old Lancia. All were impeccably well engineered and built cars, wonderful to drive and even better to look at, yet all these qualities also led to the company's downfall, as no one at Lancia had ever heard anything about cost efficient manufacturing. You wanted a sleek and pretty small coupé? That'll cost you the same as an E-Type Jag. No matter how good the cars actually were, no one wants to pay super car money for a family sedan. Not then and not now. Then of course came Fiat, and with Fiat came the second nail in Lancias coffin.
The rest is history/will be soon.
